A Maltese perspective on online peer to peer support
Online peer to peer support awareness in Malta
Methodology:
The project consists of a better understanding of Maltese young people and their thoughts about online peer to peer support.
During our brainstorming sessions and meetings we came up with the idea of interviewing fellow young people regarding online peer to peer support. Then it was decided that we were to do a presentation that includes interviews with various young people (16+) about online peer to peer support and their knowledge on the subject. With the help of friends that know their way in the technological aspect of video recording and editing we went to places most visited by young people and filmed the young people while doing the interview and giving their views about online peer to peer support. At a later stage we decided we should include some statistical data in order to show what kind of information was retrieved from the interviews.
In Antwerp we will present a PowerPoint presentation including information regarding online peer to peer support in Malta as well as verbal commentary supplementing slide presentation and statistical information regarding awareness of the online support offered in Malta. This presentation will also include the interviews of the young people.
In the presentation we will be also giving a general outline of online peer to peer support in Malta and mainly by giving a description on the project kellimni.com and also the Youth Employment Programme; an ESF project coordinated by the Employment and Training Corporation, in which career guidance, psychological help, youth work and occupational therapy are offered through online communication, thus giving the person anonymity and therefore (in some cases) make him/her feel more comfortable.
